Overview & Practical
The first certified grade in the Sangeet Abhyas curriculum. Candidates demonstrate foundational vocal ability — pitch matching, swara recognition, rhythm and basic devotional repertoire.
Practical requirements
The candidate will be able to:
- Sing two songs e.g. Bhajan, Ghazal, film song, folk song, Bandish or Rabindra Sangeet.
- Sing the Shuddha Swaras from Shadaj to Pancham.
- Sing back a Swar sung or played.
- Clap a beat to music played or sung.
- Give the names of the Shuddha Swaras i.e. Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni.
- Name and identify the main instruments used to accompany singing i.e. Tanpura, Harmonium, Tabla, Sarangi, and Surmandal.
Note: For Grade Initial, a candidate will receive a certificate with constructive comments. There is no written paper for Grade Initial.
